[Ukraine will build a 1GW wind farm in the Chernobyl exclusion zone] The Ukrainian government has agreed with German Energy company Notus Energy to build a wind farm in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (CEZ). The two sides have signed a memorandum of cooperation to build a wind farm with a capacity of up to 1GW, enough to meet the electricity needs of about 800,000 homes. CEZ, located about 130 kilometers north of Kiev, has been largely abandoned since the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Details of the size of the facility have not been released, but the CEZ covers an area with a radius of about 30 kilometers. Ukraine's Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources said the development project will contribute to the country's energy independence and create new jobs in the region.
